A night of comedy, an enchanted forest and mischievous magic is coming to Vancouver Island University’s (VIU’s) Malaspina Theatre.

Considered one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the tangled romantic tale of four young Athenians. In the city, Theseus, Duke of Athens, is to marry Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. Bottom the weaver and his friends rehearse a play in the woods they hope to stage for the wedding celebrations.

“This play is such a blast to work on and we are having so much fun in the rehearsals,” said Leon Potter, Director and a VIU Theatre Department Professor. “The world of the lovers, the fairies and the mechanicals collide so brilliantly and with catastrophic results!”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs at Malaspina Theatre from March 6 to 15, starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 on Showpass plus a processing fee, or $10 at the door.
