Impact Report

A better world starts here

From classrooms to research and community engagement

As we reflect on Vancouver Island University’s achievements from the past year, I am grateful for the dedication of our community and the many successes we share. Every person at VIU contributes to our mission as a public teaching university: to provide an inclusive learning environment that prepares graduates for meaningful work and creates lasting impact.

Since 1936, VIU has expanded access to education. From introducing British Columbia’s first former youth in care tuition waiver program, to cultivating strong, supportive relationships between instructors and students, VIU continues to create opportunities that reach well beyond the classroom.

Our teaching and learning practices are grounded in the unique region of Vancouver Island and strengthened through the continued support of our alumni, partners and community members. VIU remains deeply committed to fostering respectful and reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities, whose knowledge, leadership and partnership are integral to our shared future. From classrooms to research and community engagement, students, faculty and alumni are earning recognition locally, nationally and internationally, demonstrating the remarkable strength and reach of the VIU community.

Thank you for being part of VIU’s journey. I invite you to explore this report and join us in celebrating the collective accomplishments that continue to shape our institution and its impact on Vancouver Island.
