Where: VIU’s Malaspina Theatre lobby, Building 310, Nanaimo campus

Community members will share impactful stories from their lives during The Rainbow Project: Searching for a voice, Pride stories through the decades.

The event is hosted by Vancouver Island University’s Theatre department in collaboration with Bill Miner, playwright and Artistic Director of Child of a Hoodlum Productions. The Rainbow Project is June 22 and 23 at 7 pm in the Malaspina Theatre lobby.

Robin Boxwell, VIU Theatre department Technical Director and Instructor, said every June the department tries to produce a unique Pride event that asks the question: What does Pride mean to you? Over the years, the department has hosted podcast discussions, drag shows and staged readings.

“This year we are honoured to offer a platform for personal stories from people in our local community who will be sharing encounters that impacted their lives. We are excited to share these intimate narratives with the audience. We hope to offer a different perspective to some and encouragement for others,” said Boxwell. “Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship to show how far 2SLGBTQIA+ rights have come, and how in some places there’s still work to be done.”

The Rainbow Project is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
