Vaccine Survey Results

From August 27 to September 3, VIU ran a confidential survey asking our students and employees their vaccination status. Thank you to everyone who participated – we had a 52% response rate (4,772 completed surveys) which is a higher than usual participation rate given the timing and length of the survey period. The results of the survey will help us in our fall health and safety planning.

• 91% of respondents said they are fully vaccinated or plan to be by October 24.  
• 87% are currently fully vaccinated; 5% have received one dose and plan to get their other dose by October 24.
• 1% are not vaccinated, but plan to get vaccinated. 
• 7% indicated they do not plan to be fully vaccinated by October 24. 
• 96% of employees who responded said they presently are or plan to be fully vaccinated by October 24.
• 90% of students who responded said they presently are or plan to be fully vaccinated by October 24.

We strongly encourage all of those who can to get their vaccines. As Dr. Bonnie Henry, our Provincial Health Officer has emphasized, vaccination is the best tool in our tool box to get us through this pandemic and support the health and safety of everyone.

If you haven’t been vaccinated and plan to, remember there are vaccination clinics on the Nanaimo campus: The first floor of Building 255 in the multi-purpose room (170) from September 8 - 23, 10 am - 2 pm. We are working on confirming clinics for our other campuses.
