Vancouver Island University (VIU) is honoured to be a partner institution in the Sustainable Food Systems for Canada Innovation Platform (SF4C), which aims to make Canada a global leader in developing agri-food innovation.

The platform project, led by the University of Guelph, aims to create a national network of partners that will create an agri-food innovation and entrepreneurship training platform to empower the agri-food ecosystem and bridge the gap between university lab-based prototypes and fully commercialized technologies. VIU is one of 13 post-secondary institutions involved in the project. The University of Guelph received a Lab to Market grant of nearly $16.3 million over five years to support SF4C.

VIU will lead the seafood aspect of the project, focusing on training and education initiatives to help boost seafood production and innovation.

The platform was one of four networks of postsecondary institutions and organizations supported by the grants. The Lab to Market grants initiative is a collaboration among the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, The Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council on behalf of the Government of Canada.
