Update for January 19, 2020: All VIU locations are expected to resume their regular Sunday operation. Any changes to this will be broadcast through channels by 6:30 am on Sunday morning. Normal classes and all business are expected to resume on Monday, January 20, 2020.
VIU will continue to monitor the weather and make any adjustments as necessary.
Expect winter conditions today travelling to and from VIU, so please use caution. At the Nanaimo campus, conditions are wet, slushy and icy in spots, so please wear suitable footwear and report any slippery sections to Facilities Services at facility@viu.ca or 250.740.6500.
For students:
We know our region has many micro-climates and conditions can vary dramatically. If you are unable to get to your campus or will be late because of inclement weather conditions, please contact your instructors. If you have dependants affected by school or day care closures and alternative arrangements cannot be made, please communicate with your instructors. We encourage you to use your discretion and work with your instructors to make alternate arrangements.
For employees:

If you are unable to report to work or will be late to work because of inclement weather conditions and/or you have dependents affected by school or day care closures and alternative arrangements cannot be made, please contact your manager/department lead. We encourage you to use your discretion and work with your manager to make alternate work arrangements.
Normally, you have the option of either:
- Taking a vacation day.
- Making up the time.
- Using lieu time (where applicable).
- Taking leave without pay.
- Working from home (where applicable).
