No one will be able to say the Vancouver Island University mariners women's volleyball team doesn't deserve to be at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association championships next week.

The Mariners defeated the University of Fraser Valley Cascades 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-12) to win the Pacific Western Athletic Association championship at Douglas College in New Westminster on Saturday.

VIU dominated both of their games, landed Marlie Temple and Tamara Rosenlund on the all-star team while Leanna Gildersleeve was named tournament MVP.

"To see the way that we played this weekend, it's putting the whole season into place," said head coach Shane Hyde. "I thought it was our best back-to-back performance all weekend."
