The theme for the day was invest in our future, maximize your potential. Students, teachers and parents received a sample of the diversity of educational programs offered at Malaspina.

“There was something to interest everyone,” said Kathy Reynes, Malaspina community and school liaison office.

“Faculty and students shared their personal passions by offering sessions in the areas of technology, business, trades, fine arts, health, human services and university programs,” said Reynes.”

Food enthusiasts attended chefs on the hill, decorating cakes like the pros, and roll, twist and voila!; demonstrations geared to pique the interest of the visiting students.

The science magic show, phantastic physics and the wonders of biology intrigued those with an inquisitive mind. Participants were able to see how a computer is built, learn to take blood pressure, improve athletic skills, determine their learning style and hear about opportunities to study abroad.

Internationally renowned speaker Michael Bortolotto, a graduate of Malaspina University-College, was the keynote speaker.

“Bortolotto has pushed the edges of his comfort zone. Despite being born with cerebral palsy, he has overcome all obstacles by finding creative ways to make a rich, full life, said Pam Lewis, Malaspina community and school liaison office.

“He is a great example to students on how to overcome any obstacles in life to maximize your personal potential and do what you truly desire.”
