Explore Aspects of English Culture with Malaspina Liberal Studies Abroad

January 14, 2001 - 4:00pm

This summer, Malaspina University-College Liberal Studies Abroad will be hosting a four-week course, called Aspects of English Culture, in Sussex, England.

If spending the month of July exploring the historic county of Sussex in search of the art and ideas of the late 19th and early 20th centuries is of interest to you, an information session will be held January 29 at the Nanaimo campus.

During the course, students will trace the steps of such famous writers and artists as Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. They will steep themselves in cathedral architecture and music through the ages. They will visit concerts, churches, museums, castles and theatres in London, Cambridge, Dorchester, Bockhampton, Lyme Regis, Canterbury, Salisbury, Coventry, Winchester and Chichester.

"Aspects of English Culture can be taken as a credit course or as an educational holiday," said Liberal Arts instructor Dr. John Black. "The mode of instruction is primarily the participatory seminar, though lectures will also be included. Visits will be arranged to concerts, museums, galleries and other artistic sites. No specific previous experience is required for full participation. For most students, course activities will begin in Nanaimo with a number of class sessions during May and June."

To learn more about Aspects of English Culture, attend the information session January 29 at 7 pm in the Arts and Science building 355 (behind the Library), room 203. The session will feature slides and music and give complete details of the trip.
