Vancouver Island University theatre department presents the classic love story of Romeo and Juliet in the Malaspina Theatre Nov. 3 to 12.

“It’s a show that has stayed in the hearts of everyone who has experienced it for centuries,” said Mike Taugher, Chair of the VIU theatre program.

Under the direction of Leon Potter, the cast and crew bring new life to possibly the greatest love story ever told.

“This classic follows the story of two star-crossed lovers from opposing families at war, married in secret and doomed to tragedy surrounded by hatred, prejudice, exile and death,” explained Potter. “This is one of William Shakespeare’s most well known works and has become the most famous and accessible of his plays.”

Opening night for Romeo and Juliet is Thursday, Nov. 3 at 8 pm. Additional evening shows run Nov. 4, 5, 9, 10 and 12 at 8 pm. Matinee shows take place Nov. 8 at 4 pm and Nov. 7, 9 and 10 at 12 noon. All performances take place in the Malaspina Theatre at VIU’s Nanaimo campus.

Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for students and seniors. For reservations, please call the Malaspina Theatre box office at 250-740-6100.
