Campus Rec hosts free Smoothie Day Nutrition Drop In
Vancouver Island University's Campus Rec department continues its Wednesday Wellness series.
Last week, employees and students were treated to fruit, granola bars and pancakes. This week, Campus Rec served up healthy and delicious smoothies and handed out recipes and nutrition tips.
"It's all part of our 'healthier you' campaign," said Campus Rec coordinator Karen Alden.
Representatives from a wide range of departments and programs meet each month to advance an agenda of health and wellbeing at VIU as members of the Healthy U Committee.
The presence of an active health and wellness centre is essential to the cultivation of a healthy campus community allowing students and staff to be fully engaged in their learning and work.
To that end, the Healthy U Committee promotes and implements activities and events to benefit the campus community through the active participation of students, staff and faculty.
Nursing students have been engaged with the Committee over the past several years, providing leadership through the Health and Wellness desk, a student-led initiative. In Building 200 (beside the cashier's office). In addition to housing a wealth of resources at the desk, nursing students have offered blood pressure testing, promoted monthly awareness activities, and provided invaluable information to those who stop by with questions.
