Campus 'Opens Wide' for VIU Open House Oct. 3

Senior Dental Hygiene diploma program students (l-r) Kathryn Harrison and Stephanie Lapointe demonstrate the use of a velscope in VIU’s Dental Clinic. This piece of equipment is used as an early warning screening tool to check for mouth abnormalities such as oral cancer.

Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) Nanaimo campus is open wide from 10 am to 5 pm tomorrow, Oct. 3 for the annual VIU Open House.

There’s something to do in virtually every corner of VIU – including a visit to VIU’s Dental Clinic in Building 180, Room 560, where students in the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant program will let you know that “Healthy Smiles Start Here.” Take away lots of information about oral health, meet students and faculty to learn about their programs, find out about the community services available in the clinic, and take away a new toothbrush.

Healthy Smiles is one of dozens of free, hands-on activities, displays, tours, presentations, readings, lectures, demonstrations, and mini lessons you can enjoy during VIU Open House. See www.viu.ca/openhouse to plan your visit, and drop by the info booth in front of the Welcome Centre (Building 300) for directions and details.

Parking is complimentary during Open House, and an on-campus shuttle will be available to those with mobility challenges.
