Milner Gardens and Woodlands will be hosting two not-to-be-missed events during the next couple of weeks in preparation for the launch of their busiest season which starts March 28.
The first event is Milner’s annual Volunteer Opportunity Day, Saturday, March 23, from 1pm-3pm, where anyone who loves the outdoors is welcome to spend a couple of hours discovering the varied volunteer opportunities available at the gardens.
Current volunteers and staff will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the one-of-a-kind volunteer options at Milner including leading tours, working with the children’s program, working in visitor services, helping in the tea room, and lending a hand with gardening, construction projects and maintenance of the grounds.
Then, from March 30-April 1, the community can take part in one of Milner’s most popular annual events – the Easter Bunny Search. At the gardens’ Welcome and Interpretative Centre, families will be given maps with clues that lead to bunnies that have been hidden in the gardens. Once all of the bunnies have been discovered, the maps can be returned to the Pool House Gift shop and traded in for an Easter treat. A few lucky bunny seekers may also find a blown glass Easter egg donated by glass artist Ted Jolda or spot the real Easter Bunny himself.
Admission is free for current VIU students with a student card, Milner Garden members, and children 12 and under, accompanied by an adult. The gates are open from 10am-4.30pm and the tearoom from 1pm to 4pm.
