Bachelor of Arts Major in Studio Art graduating student exhibition runs from April 20 to May 13.
After a year of taking studio art classes online, the 11 students in this year’s graduating student exhibition Escape Artists hit the ground running last September – challenging themselves in the final year of their Vancouver Island University (VIU) undergraduate degree. The result is the diverse collection of artworks we see in their graduating exhibition.
The talented group of students sharing their artwork with us in Escape Artists – Elisha De Groot, Brooklyn Haight, Christina Lum, Andrew Ninatti, Anthony Ninatti, Marjorie Pelkey, Alex Staniforth, Shaina Richelle, Makenna Stobbe, Alex Waite and Dominique Wright – have shown themselves to be resilient, hardworking, courageous and good-humoured. Their graduating projects can be viewed in the gallery until May 13 during regular gallery hours, Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Works in painting, drawing, sculpture and digital illustration show a diversity of approaches that use material, colour, line and form to express a breadth of ideas that highlight the fruits of their individual artistic practices and research.
