Update: February 5, 2025: VIU’s Nanaimo campus will re-open at noon today (Wednesday, February 5) after a severe weather closure. VIU’s Cowichan and tiwšɛmawtxʷ campuses are open as normal.
Buses are running this morning but there may be delays due to winter weather, check the BC Transit Alerts webpage for more. Allow for extra time for commuting in winter conditions if you are coming to campus. Please use caution when navigating our campuses and wear appropriate footwear for slippery conditions. Note: the main cafeteria and Starbucks will be open this afternoon, the lower cafeteria will remain closed for the day.
A huge thank you to the Facilities Services crews, who have been working hard to clear snow and ice on campus. To report a slippery section, please email facility@viu.ca so that our hard-working team is aware. If you experience an incident or injury, be sure to report it to VIU through the online incident reporting system. We will continue to monitor conditions closely, with any updates shared via the VIU Safety App and website banner first.
We know our region has many micro-climates and snow accumulation can vary dramatically. You are asked to use your best judgment when deciding if you are able to travel if your campus is open. If you are not able to safely travel to campus, you are asked to let your instructors or managers know to make alternative arrangements. If your campus re-opens and you have dependents affected by lack of childcare and alternative arrangements cannot be made, please contact your manager or instructors.
