Since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the shutdown of many face-to-face activities, members of the VIU community have gotten creative, designing a range of virtual at-home activities and experiences to replace in-person activities, lectures and other educational events planned.
To provide a new venue for showcasing these efforts, we are pleased to present VIU Community Classroom. The website features content created by VIU employees and students to be shared with the broader community. From educational activities at Deep Bay Marine Field Station, to at-home chemistry experiments, to health and wellness content designed to keep us moving and eating well from our Athletics and Recreation department, the site features a wide range of content to keep people entertained, informed, and most importantly – learning - from the comfort of their homes.
Want to share your passion and expertise on VIU Community Classroom? Content is divided into five fun categories:
- Brain Break includes fun activities to keep kids and families entertained;
- Thrive Together is a selection of health and wellness articles and videos;
- Cultureverse is where employees and students can showcase their skills in the performing, written and visual arts;
- Curious Minds takes us on a journey with those studying how the world works and researching new ways of doing things;
- Roam with Me allows readers to go on exploratory journeys of our physical surroundings.
Do you have an educational or fun project you’d like to showcase on this site? Email Jenn.McGarrigle@viu.ca for consideration.
