WHAT: VIU Graduate Programs Expo
WHEN: Wednesday, January 19, 2022, 4-8 pm; drop-in event
WHERE: Online/Virtual
Students who are contemplating the next step in their post-secondary careers can drop in to Vancouver Island University’s (VIU’s) virtual Graduate Programs Expo on January 19.
Graduate programs build on what students learned in undergraduate degrees and are more highly specialized in a particular area of study. VIU has a range of graduate options to choose from, from master’s degrees, to advanced diplomas, to certificates, to enhance the education students have already received and help propel them into the next step in their careers.
The Graduate Programs Expo will include a keynote talk by Sandipan Debnath, a 2021 Master of Business Administration graduate who is now working as a Business Development Representative at Wrapbook, a US-based tech start-up that is digitizing the entertainment payroll industry. VIU Associate Vice-President of Student Affairs Irlanda Gonzalez Price will also talk about her own experience and the value of graduate programs.
Expo attendees will also be able to:
- Meet instructors and ask questions about the graduate programs they are interested in;
- Hear from and chat with alumni of VIU graduate programs about what the experience is really like;
- Learn about support services such as scholarships, internships and research opportunities;
- Get a sense of how grad school is different from undergraduate programs;
- Receive advice on what to consider if you are thinking about graduate school; and
- Go through an overview of the graduate school application process.
The event is hosted through an online event platform called PheedLoop. The platform allows participants to browse the different program booths in the Exhibit Hall, as well as scroll through the “Sessions” section to attend live Q&A sessions with faculty, much like walking into an in-person conference room. Participants can also network with other participants, faculty members, and domestic and international recruitment staff in the “Networking” section.
