Spend an afternoon at Vancouver Island University’s (VIU’s) Nanaimo campus for VIU Fest, a free, annual community event showcasing the best the university has to offer.
Whether you or someone you know is thinking about becoming a VIU student, or you’re just looking for something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon with family and friends, the event has something for everyone. New this year, VIU Fest will also feature pop-up classes designed for youth ages 15 to 25. These experiences are taught by VIU faculty and give attendees the chance to experience for themselves what hands-on learning is like at VIU. The series begins at 11 am and ends at 2 pm.
Check out live music, explore the pumpkin patch, take part in hands-on science demonstrations and enjoy delicious food and beverage options, including food trucks and a beer garden with the best view in town. There will also be lots of prizes and giveaways, including the chance to win a year of tuition to VIU, a fun zone with kid-friendly activities, a community corner featuring a variety of local organizations and an Indigenous artisan market.
“Our faculty and students are excited to welcome the community to see what learning is all about at VIU,” said Dr. Dennis Johnson, Interim President and Vice-President. “Whether you’re curious about what it’s like to be in a real VIU classroom, want to explore how our programs can help you reach your goals or are simply looking for some fall-themed family fun, VIU Fest offers something for everyone.”
Parking is free throughout the day. More information can be found on the VIU Fest website, which will include a full schedule and activity map closer to the event.
