The Vancouver Island University Engineering department is pleased to recognize the achievements of its first and second year students and announce the award of several scholarships and bursaries.
“These scholarships and bursaries recognize the great effort of these students,” said Brian Dick, professor in the Engineering Science department at VIU. “Our department is extremely proud of their achievements.”
Seven awards have been distributed including:
Nicholas Plecas Entrance Scholarships: Dana Letourman, Andria Farnham
Aurora NanoDevices Inc. Entrance Award: Kevin Dougan
Herold Engineering Entrance Award: Spencer Smythies
Herold Engineering Scholarship: Mike Engelman Germaine
Mansbridge Family Scholarships: Tenli Gregory, Mike Engelman Germaine
Vancouver Island University and the Department of Engineering would like to thank each of the scholarship sponsors for their generous support of our students.
“The sponsors for these engineering awards have been actively involved with the engineering program at VIU,” said Dick. “In addition to providing funds for scholarship, Herold Engineering has provided engineers as mentors during VIU’s Engineering Fair days and given talks to first year engineering students, while Aurora NanoDevices Inc. has provided equipment to the engineering lab.”
In 2006, the Engineering department expanded its already successful UBC (University of British Columbia) and UVic (University of Victoria) 1st-year engineering transfer program by offering a two-year transfer program to UVic. Students planning on entering the Electrical and Computer Engineering program at UVic now have the option of taking their first two years at VIU before transferring. Acceptance into third year at UVic is guaranteed upon acceptance into the VIU 2nd year program.
