VIU begins search for next president

Search process kicks off with consultation process that runs until May 15, 2026.

What qualities and characteristics do you believe Vancouver Island University (VIU) needs in its next president?

In June 2025, Dr. Dennis Johnson was appointed Interim President and Vice-Chancellor for a period of up to two years. The search for a new president began earlier this year with the formation of a Presidential Search Advisory Committee. The committee’s first task was to draft criteria for VIU’s next president.

The committee is looking for community feedback on the draft criteria. Community consultation is open until May 15. You can contribute by completing a short survey or sharing your thoughts by email to presidentialsearch@viu.ca

If you have any questions about the search process, how to refer prospective candidates or need help to participate in the consultation process, please contact presidentialsearch@viu.ca. You can also find information and get updates on this important search via the presidential search website.
