Vancouver Island University is awarding degrees to 520 students from
13 programs in three ceremonies on May 31 and June 1 at the Port
Theatre in Nanaimo. Weather permitting, there will an academic
procession of graduates before each ceremony from the Port Theatre to
Commercial Street, down Commercial to Bastion Street, down Bastion
Street to Front Street, down Front Street and back to the Port Theatre.
For three programs, this is their first graduating classes (Bachelor
of Hospitality Management; Bachelor of Interior Design; Master of
Education in Educational Leadership)
Monday, May 31 ceremony, 2:30 pm, Port Theatre
Highlights include:
· Greetings from the Lieutenant Governor of BC, The Honourable Steven Point Xw? l? qw?l t?l
· Valedictory Address by Rajvir Kaur Grewal, Master of Business Administration
· Conferring of degrees to graduates in the Master of
Business Administration, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor
of Hospitality Management and Bachelor of Tourism Management programs.
June 1 ceremony, 10 am, Port Theatre
Highlights include:
· Presentation of Governor General Gold Medal to Barbara McLaughlin, Master of Education in Educational Leadership
· Valedictory Address by Naomi Macrae, Bachelor of Science
· Conferring of Degrees to graduates in the Bachelor of
Science, Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Bachelor of
Natural Resource Protection, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor
of Arts in Child and Youth Care, Bachelor of Education, Master of
Education in Educational Leadership.
June 1 ceremony, 2:30 pm, Port Theatre
Highlights include:
· Presentation of Alumni Horizon Award to Rebekah Shoop (award to be accepted by her father, Gregg Shoop)
· Presentation of Governor General Silver Medal to Laura Buzzard, Bachelor of Arts
· Valedictory Address by Courtney Lynn Decker, Bachelor of Arts
· Conferring of Degrees to graduates in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Interior Design programs.
