VIU Announces New Board Members

Vancouver Island University (VIU) recently announced two new appointments to the Board of Governors while saying goodbye to two long term members.


"I’m pleased with the new appointments,” said VIU President Dr. Ralph Nilson.  “We’re fortunate to attract committed, talented individuals to our governance. With input from all of our stakeholders, VIU will continue to provide the highest quality in programming and services as we evolve and move forward into the future.”


Joining the board is Ann Scott, a chartered accountant and partner with Presley & Partners. Scott brings a long history of community service, including experience as the Treasurer of the Comox Valley United Way, chair and member of the North Island College Board of Governors, treasurer of Forbidden Toastmasters andComox Rotary,and director of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Victoria and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.     


The Board also welcomes Duncan resident Jerry Doman. He is president and CEO of the Centurion Group of Companies, which have a 40 year history in the B.C. forest industry. He sits on the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation Board, is a past president of the Cowichan Valley Hoo-Hoo Club and a past director of the B.C. Forest Museum and Community Futures. 


Leaving the Board after six and a half years of service are Patti Miller and former Board Chair Robin Kenyon.


“We appreciate the many years of dedication and leadership Patti and Robin have given to VIU,” said Nilson. “It’s been a pleasure working with both of them. They’ve overseen our transition to university status and we thank them for their contribution to the history of this institution.”


A resident of Lantzville, Miller was appointed to the Malaspina University-College Board in July 2002. She has extensive board experience in a variety of disciplines including the Nanaimo Port Authority, Community Futures Development Corporation, the Nanaimo Credit Union, and the Nanaimo River Hatchery and is the owner/supervisor of Tideview Services, a processing laboratory of Pacific Herring and Pilchards. 


Kenyon, a partner and co-manager of Kenyon Wilson Professional Land Surveyors and Development Consultants in Duncan, began his post-secondary education at VIU.  He holds a Diploma in Survey Technology from BCIT, is a commissioned B.C. Land Surveyor, a Commissioned Canada Lands Surveyor and holds a Certificate in Site Planning from UBC. He resides in Duncan with his wife and four sons.
