When it comes to welding, Trevor Styan is hot! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The grade 12 Wellington Secondary student has been taking welding level C at Malaspina University-College through the School District 68’s Career Technical Centre (CTC) and doing very well.
Over the past month Styan has added a bronze medal from the Skills Canada B.C. competition held April 14 at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre and the gold medal from the March 26 Regional Skills competition held at Camosun College. These medals are added to his collection of two others from previous regional competitions.
Styan works part-time at Doumont Welding and plans to use his welding skills to pay for a degree in Mechanical Engineering either at the University of Victoria or BCIT.
The Central Vancouver Island Career Technical Centre is a career-focused program that students may choose in their final two years of secondary school and first year of post-secondary education.
The CTC is a regional partnership between School District 68 and Malaspina University-College. Instruction is provided by School District 68 teachers and Malaspina instructors.
For more information contact the CTC Principal at (250) 740-2000.
