TARGETED JOB ACTION AT VIU

November 27, 2012 - 8:01am

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, November 27, 2012

NANAIMO, BC – Vancouver Island University (VIU) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1858 are continuing their efforts to finalize a renewed collective agreement.

CUPE has informed VIU that they do not intend to take any further job action that would disrupt classes for students this week. However, they have notified the University that they are planning to take targeted job action that will not directly impact students from Wednesday, November 28 to Friday, November 30.

This job action will not disrupt classes and will impact the Facilities Department only. This means that internal services such as mail delivery, regular maintenance and repair, and facility job requests, will not be available during this period. However, all classes will proceed as scheduled.

If there are any further questions, please email labourinfo@viu.ca or call (250)753-3245 or 1-888-920-2221.

VIU remains committed to completing a negotiated settlement with CUPE without further disruption to students.

The next update will be issued Friday, November 30, or earlier if events warrant. Updates will be sent to all students by email through the Registrar’s Office, and posted on the VIU website at www.viu.ca/labourupdate, and on Twitter at @VIUNews.
