In order to receive the Award of Excellence in Nursing Education the recipient has to demonstrate excellence in a dozen different aspects of nursing education and be endorsed with letters from at least ten colleagues or associates, five of whom are registered nurses. Jung is known for her innovative approaches to teaching and her commitment to excellence. A colleague described her as “a stellar teacher who supports and nurtures others on a daily basis.”
Jung has made significant changes and improvements to the curricula and courses in the Home Support/Resident Care Attendant Program. She led the way in the development of prior learning assessment for students. Jung is also a mentor and role model for colleagues in both education and practice settings.
One colleague said, “If I needed to talk to a fellow nurse about any issue with my practice, it would be Piera that I would think of.”
Laureen Garteig, Malaspina University-College Dean of Health and Human Services, said, “We are all very proud of Piera and the exemplary work that she does at Malaspina. It is entirely fitting for her to be recognized with this prestigious award.”
