A record 526 students received bachelor’s degrees from Malaspina University-College at convocation ceremonies on June 4 and 5 at the Port Theatre.
This year marked the biggest Malaspina graduating class ever, up from 505 graduates last year. Bachelor’s degrees were awarded in the areas of:
· Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care
· Bachelor of Business Administration
· Bachelor of Education
· Bachelor of Science
· Bachelor of Arts
· Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture
· Bachelor of Science in Nursing
· Bachelor of Tourism Management
The ceremonies also included:
· Master of Business Administration
· Master of Business Administration (International)
The Presidential Inauguration ceremony for Dr. Ralph Nilson took place on Monday, June 4, with the presentation of the President’s robe, hood and medallion.
Dr. Aaron Jex received the Alumni Horizon Award, which recognizes the outstanding achievements of Malaspina alumni early in their careers. Jason Devlin (who graduated with a Bachelor of Science) received the Governor General’s Silver Medal award for high academic achievement.
Retiring hairdressing instructor and coordinator Patricia Johnston received the Honorary Service award, which recognizes outstanding service to Malaspina over a number of years. Cowichan Elder Luschiim (Arvid Charlie) received an Honorary Doctor of Letters for scholarly accomplishments and contributions.
