Progressions 2008 is coming to Malaspina campus

April 10, 2008 - 6:57am

From April 18 to May 3, graphic design, interior design and visual art students at Malaspina University-College will showcase their finest works at the annual student show Progressions.

Every year, Progressions features the best in student visual art, with paintings, photography, and printmaking showcased at the Nanaimo Art Gallery on campus. The best graphic design work features poster designs, ads and book covers, while interior design students’ elegant and unique floor plans are featured in the Malaspina Theatre. This year is really exciting for graphic design and interior design students, who will be celebrating the success of their two new degrees at MUC.

“Progressions 2008 is a showcase of the dedication and talent of our Malaspina art students,” said Malaspina Art Club President Chris Luscerbo.

Every year, all graphic, interior design and visual art students submit up to three of their best works, which are juried by the arts faculty. Gregory Ball, curator of the Nanaimo Art Gallery and Malaspina Visual Art instructor, says that Progressions is a very important time of year.

“It is poignant moment when you see works on the wall and all that hard work over the year comes into fruition,” said Ball. “It is the crème de la crème. When you think about the Progressions title for the show, it actually clarifies what really happens to students over the years.”

The opening reception for Progressions 2008 is on Friday evening, April 18. The awards ceremony commences at 7 pm at the Malaspina Theatre. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony, which is followed by the official opening at the gallery with more displays and refreshments in the Visual and Applied Arts Building.
