We are writing to announce that VIU’s Board of Governors is embarking on the recruitment of the university’s next continuing president. This recruitment will be conducted in accordance with the Board of Governors' presidential recruitment procedure.
At its January meeting, following consultation with interim President Dr. Dennis Johnson, the Board kicked off the search. This was done to ensure a thorough and comprehensive recruitment process, as outlined in the Board’s procedure, before the expiry of Dr. Johnson’s current interim appointment.
As part of the recruitment process, the VIU community will have the opportunity to provide input into the search criteria and qualities needed in VIU’s new president. The next step in this process is the establishment of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (“PSAC”). The role of the PSAC is detailed in the presidential recruitment procedure.
We have asked the University Secretariat to establish a central place for the VIU community to receive information about the search, and to create communication channels for the community to get regular updates on this recruitment. Over the coming weeks, the University Secretariat will provide further information about how VIU community members can engage in the search process. Information will be shared and updated through the presidential search webpage.
We wish to recognize and thank the entire VIU community for your continued commitment and dedication to our university during this time of transition.
Sincerely,
Presidential Search Steering Committee
Jamie Cassels, Board Chair
Nate Bello, Board Vice-Chair
Karen Bittner, Past Board Chair
