One of the many new initiatives brought in by President Ralph Nilson since his arrival at VIU has been to significantly increase scholarship opportunities for students.
Pictured here are seven recipients of the President’s Scholar Athlete Awards for the 2008-09 season.
These student athletes come from across Canada and have achieved top academic marks as well as being top athletes in their chosen sports. VIU is very fortunate to be able to attract this calibre of student athlete.
The scholarship is renewable for four years if the student athlete maintains a 7.5 Grade Point Average. Two local student athletes, Blake Mansbridge and Sarah Fraser, were both standout athletes and academic students at Dover Bay and Wellington High Schools respectively.
Dr Nilson was on hand at the Annual Mariner Welcome barbeque held recently to recognize the seven athletes.
