Celebrated writers Don Domanski and Alissa York will read their work 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8 at the Library Writing Centre on the Nanaimo campus.

The readings by the award-winning poet and novelist are the third event in the 2010/11 Poets on Campus series at Vancouver Island University (VIU).

Don Domanski, VIU’s 2005 Gustafson Chair of Poetry who lives in Halifax, has published eight books of poetry. All Our Wonder Unavenged (Brick Books) was awarded the 2007 Governor General's Award for Poetry and the 2008 Atlantic Poetry Prize and was longlisted for the 2008 ReLit Awards. Wolf Ladder (1991) and Stations of the Left Hand (1994) were shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for Poetry. Published and reviewed internationally, his work has been translated into Czechoslovakian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Alissa York’s novels include Mercy, Effigy, (shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize) and, most recently, Fauna. She is also the author of the short fiction collection, Any Given Power, stories from which have won the Journey Prize and the Bronwen Wallace Award. She has lived all over Canada, and now makes her home in Toronto.

The event is open to the public. Admission is by donation. Following the readings, there will be cookies, coffee and conversation.

In addition to VIU sponsorship through the Department of Creative Writing, VIU Faculty Association and Dean of Arts and Humanities, the Poets on Campus series is supported by Canada Council for the Arts, the League of Canadian Poets and the Writers’ Union of Canada.
