Nexen Inc., formerly CXY Chemicals and Canoxy Chemicals, has donated five thousand dollars towards the expansion of the library at Malaspina University-College.
Nanaimo plant manager Kevin Meaney presented the donation before leaving for Alberta where he will take over management of Nexen's big plant in Bruderheim. Nexen provides chemicals to the pulp and paper industry and has been a long-time supporter of Malaspina University-College.
Kevin Meaney presented the cheque to Ross Fraser, Malaspina’s Director of community and corporate development, and Doug Eamer, Vice-President of operations for Pope and Talbot at their Harmac mill and Chair of the Malaspina Foundation’s major donors committee.
In thanking Nexen for its generous gift, Fraser noted that Meaney has been very busy getting ready for his transfer. “We appreciate his interest in Malaspina and his commitment in securing this gift for Malaspina students before leaving to take up his new position.”
The expansion of the library is a major project for Malaspina, which has seen tremendous growth in degree programs and student enrollments since the library was last upgraded.
