The Vancouver Island University theatre department is putting a little spring into it's step with its latest production, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

It's a musical performance, said director and VIU professor Ross Desprez, which is one of the best forms of escapism.

Desprez enjoys teaching musicals as they expand the boundaries of his students' skills and challenges them to learn something new. The production is a monster, featuring elaborate sets and over 100 costumes.

On the heel's of the department's fall production, Romeo and Juliet, comes A Funny Thing. It was time for something light to counter the seriousness of Shakespeare's tragedy.

"It's a fun play. These days everybody wants to escape in theatre and not be lectured to," said director and VIU theatre professor Ross Desprez.
