Patricia (Pat) Eagar from Alberta has been named as Vancouver Island University’s new Vice-President of Finance and Administration.

"We are thrilled to announce that Pat is joining the VIU team," said VIU President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ralph Nilson. "Pat’s experience as a senior financial officer coupled with her knowledge of the post-secondary system and other public sectors is an excellent match for VIU as we continue to evolve into a world class university."

According to Nilson, Eagar currently holds the position of Vice-President Finance and Administration at Athabasca University in Alberta, a position she has held since 2003. In her role at Athabasca, Eagar leads a large and varied portfolio that includes financial, human resources, capital projects, physical plant functions, risk management, and archives. Eagar has strong connections on Vancouver Island and worked with the Vancouver Island Regional Health Authority prior to moving to Alberta. She holds Certified Management Accounting (CMA) designation and received a Master in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University in 1997. In 2008, she was awarded the designation of Fellow to the Society of Certified Management Accountants (FCMA), a national designation awarded to CMAs who, by their achievements, bring distinction to the profession. Eagar has served on CMA boards at a local, provincial or national level for the past 19 years and currently serves as trustee on the Universities Academic Pension Plan and the Alberta Association in Higher Education for Information Technology (AAHEIT).

"I am delighted to be coming home to Vancouver Island," said Eagar. "The opportunity to work for VIU during such an exciting time in the institution's evolution, in addition to the chance to work in one of the most beautiful locations in the country is exciting."

Eagar and her husband have recently completed the construction of a "Built Green" home in Crofton, which they happily share with their two Havanese dogs, Ebony and Cinder. Eagar will join the VIU team in February 2009.
