Patricia (Pat) Eagar has now joined the Vancouver Island University (VIU) executive team and is looking forward to undertaking her role as VIU’s new Vice-President of Administration and Finance. Eagar joined the VIU team February 9.

“We are thrilled Pat is officially on board,” said VIU President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ralph Nilson. “Pat’s experience as a senior financial officer coupled with her knowledge of the post-secondary system and other public sectors is an excellent match for VIU as we continue to evolve into a world class university.”

Before joining VIU, Eagar was Vice-President, Finance and Administration, at Athabasca University in Alberta, a position she held since 2003. In her role at Athabasca, Eagar led a large and varied portfolio that included financial, human resources, capital projects, physical plant functions, risk management and archives.

Eagar has strong connections on Vancouver Island. She worked with the Vancouver Island Regional Health Authority prior to moving to Alberta. She holds Certified Management Accounting (CMA) designation and received a Master in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. In 2008, Pat was awarded the designation of Fellow to the Society of Certified Management Accountants, a national designation awarded to CMAs who, by their achievements, bring distinction to the profession.  The faculty and staff at VIU are also pleased to congratulate Pat on her graduation earlier this month as a Chartered Director from McMaster University.

Eagar has served on CMA boards at a local, provincial or national level for the past 19 years and served as trustee on the University’s Academic Pension Plan and the Alberta Association in Higher Education for Information Technology.

“I am delighted to be back on Vancouver Island,” said Eagar. “The opportunity to work for VIU during such an exciting time in the institution’s evolution, in addition to the chance to work in one of the most beautiful locations in the country is exciting.”
