2004 is the tenth anniversary year for the Malaspina University-College Foundation, and will be a big one for its new Chair, Pat Dennison.

Dennison, a financial advisor at Investors Group, was inducted Chair at the Foundation’s first meeting of the year January 29. She takes over from Ron Forster, a business banker at Royal Bank Financial Group, who lead the Foundation through 2003.

The Foundation is the fundraising arm of Malaspina University-College, and this year celebrates the tenth anniversary of their formation.

“Our tenth anniversary year marks an exciting milestone for the Foundation,” she said.  “There are many past achievements to celebrate and many new fund-raising ideas for the years ahead. Our past members and volunteers have done a great job of raising funds to support students and enhance Malaspina University-College, as well as building a substantial endowment fund.

“The Foundation’s role at Malaspina becomes more important each year as costs rise and money for educational needs becomes harder to get.”

She credits previous Chair Ron Forster and the 23 other Directors and the Foundation’s many volunteers for 2003 being a banner year for the Foundation, with just over one million dollars raised. More than half of that amount was for the New Library campaign.

The Directors on the Foundation are all volunteers, and contribute their skills and energy to supporting Malaspina University-College by raising funds, acquiring new equipment for classrooms and labs at Malaspina’s four campuses.
