Ms. Teresa Moore assumes the duties of Director of Development and Alumni at Vancouver Island University effective September 8.
Moore will be replacing Roger Prior who retired earlier this year.
Moore comes from the University of California Berkley , College of Engineering, where she worked for several years as the Executive Director, Marketing and Communications. She holds a BA from the University of Toronto .
Moore’s background in higher education and amateur sport includes stints as communications director for Skate Canada and as a senior information officer for the University of Victoria . She also directed the Canadian team media operations at both the 1994 and 1998 Commonwealth Games in Victoria and Kuala Lumpur .
“Teresa brings a wealth of professional expertise in communications, strategic planning, project and volunteer management that I know will prove to be a tremendous asset to Vancouver Island University, and in particular to the Vancouver Island University Foundation,” said VIU President Ralph Nilson. "We're delighted she will be joining our team."
Moore said she is “thrilled” to be starting her new position at Vancouver Island University .
“I am passionate about higher education,” she said. “The idea of bringing my diverse experience to VIU as it evolves into a full university is very exciting. It’s the beginning of a new era for the university and I very much look forward to being part of the team, helping create a new vision and watching the university grow.”
During her first few weeks and months on the job, Moore said she will meet key players on and off campus, and gain a better understanding of the culture of the institution. “I tend to be a person who likes to get things done,” she said, “but I’ll be taking my time in putting my plan together to move the VIU Foundation forward. That involves listening a lot, and seeking input from senior management and others.”
Now in its 14th year, the VIU Foundation is the charitable arm of Vancouver Island University , and raises more than one million dollars annually to support students with scholarships and bursaries, and provide new teaching and learning equipment. The Foundation manages a $6.5 million endowment fund which generates scholarships, awards and bursaries for students. The Foundation raises funds through special events such as the annual Christmas Festival of Trees, an annual appeal, and promotion of planned gifts and legacies.
