Bruce Condie is Vancouver Island University’s new Director,
International Marketing, Recruitment and
Business Development.
Condie, who starts work at VIU on Feb. 22, has been the
Director of International Education for Red River College in Winnipeg since
2006.
VIU has much to offer students who are looking for a high
quality education in a wide range of programs from high school to post-graduate
studies, Condie said. He is looking forward to attracting high quality
international students to the university.
“VIU is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the
country with one of the mildest climates. Vancouver Island offers a lot of
activities that are highly attractive to students and VIU can offer the best of
living in a smaller community with easy access to Vancouver and Victoria,”
Condie said.
A quick response time to student enquiries and applications
is one of the best ways to attract top students, he added.
“The quality students will have offers from a number of
institutions. If VIU is quick in approving an application, the chances the
students will pick VIU are significantly increased,” he said.
More than 1250 international students from more than 50
countries study at Vancouver Island University in a wide range of certificate,
undergraduate and graduate programs.
“Bruce’s worldwide and varied experience in administration
and leadership positions in international education will be invaluable to VIU
as we develop new markets and forge new partnerships with post-secondary
institutions around the world,” said Graham Pike, Dean,
International Education at VIU.
International
students make significant cultural, economic and social contributions to the
university and the wider community and VIU has been a long-standing leader in
international education, Pike said.
“By offering truly global education, VIU maximizes the
options for international students wherever they choose to live,” Condie said. “The
variety and high quality of VIU programs allows students to maximize their
educational experience so that they can embark on a successful career within
Canada.”
Global experience from VIU gives international students who
return to their home countries an advantage in their career options. Credentials
from VIU allow international students to compete successfully for jobs and
enable them to enhance the quality of lives in their communities, he said.
Condie has worked within the field of education for more
than 20 years and has experience in a wide array of educational environments
including secondary, post-secondary and adult education. Condie has successful experience in marketing
and the recruitment of international students, including two years as Director
of Ontario-based Georgian College’s new campus in Chandigarh, India. He was
also an administrator of English as a Second Language and literacy programs
with the Toronto District School Board for ten years.
Condie is currently completing an MBA in International
Management with the University of London.
