New appointments to Malaspina board

The Ministry of Advanced Education has appointed six new members to the Malaspina University-College board.


John Moss is the former superintendent and CEO of the Qualicum school district. He holds a Master of Education from the University of Manitoba and a Doctorate of Education from the University of B.C. Moss is past director of the Mid-Island Science and Technology Innovation Council.


Robin Kenyon is a partner of Kenyon Wilson professional land surveyors and development consultants in Duncan. He is a commissioned BC and Canada lands surveyor and holds a certificate in site planning from the University of BC.  Kenyon is also a soccer coach in the Cowichan area.


Don Hubbard is the general manager of the northwest division for Lafarge Canada. He is a director of the Canadian Asphalt Association and a founder of the Central Island Aggregate Producers. Hubbard completed Malaspina’s heavy equipment operation and maintenance program, and studied mathematics and survey calculus at the B.C. Institute of Technology.


Hans Brennert holds a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He is a senior project manager with HIB Enterprises in Powell River. Brennert is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. and the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association.


William (Bill) King is the financial advisor for Canaccord Capital in Nanaimo. He was chair of Malaspina’s board and is the founding director of the B.C. Science and Technology Centre in Victoria. King was alderman and city councillor for Nanaimo, and is a director of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.


Bob Waldhaus is information systems manager for Pope & Talbot. Previously, he was a senior technical engineer for Norske Skog. Waldhaus holds a diploma from the CDI Institute of Technology in Victoria and has maintained networks at MacMillan Bloedel and the Workers' Compensation Board.


Two appointed members of the existing board will be retained; they are chair Shelley Garside and vice-chair Jane Gregory.


The Malaspina board comprises 14 members:  8 appointed by government;  1 elected staff representative;  1 elected from among faculty;  2 elected students;  as well the chair of Education Council and the president of Malaspina University-College.


The first meeting of the Board takes place on Monday, April 8, at the Nanaimo campus.
