Malaspina University-College graduate David Forrester has been appointed as the new Manager of Alumni Relations for Malaspina University-College, and has a big job in front of him.

According to Malaspina President Dr. Ralph Nilson, institutional alumni represent one of the most important relationships a University has.

“The relationships we build with our students while they are here and after they graduate are very important to the success of our institution,” said Nilson. “Our alumni become Malaspina ambassadors and represent us around the world. They become business leaders who hire our graduates, they invest in scholarships and awards for incoming students and they become excellent advisors who can assist us in shaping the future direction of the institution. The need to engage our alumni and build exceptional relationships with them has never been more important and I am thrilled that this new position at Malaspina is being filled by a Malaspina Graduate.”

According to Nilson, Forrester received a Malaspina diploma in Recreation and Sport Management and a second Malaspina diploma in Physical Education before going on to achieve his undergraduate degree in Sports Management at Brock University. Prior to taking on this new position with Malaspina, Forrester served as the Athletic and Corporate Services Manager for Pacific Sport in Nanaimo and is well-known in the community for his volunteer work with Operation Red Nose, the Sport Achievement Awards, the Chamber of Commerce, the Special Olympics, and the Legacies Now Spirit of BC Committee.

Forrester was named as one of the sales leaders of tomorrow by the Nanaimo Chamber in 2005-06, and was outstanding in the Chamber’s Leadership program in 2006-07.

“David has a big job ahead of him,” said Nilson. “This is a new position and the expectations are high. I am confident that David possesses the experience, energy and enthusiasm that will assist Malaspina in reaching out to our alumni and engaging with them in ways that will assist us in continuing to grow Malaspina into a centre of academic excellence.”

“I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to build upon the exceptional relations Malaspina has built with its alumni,” said Forrester. “As a Malaspina alumnus myself, I know and understand the valuable symbiotic relationship that exists between the organization and its past students. I look forward to assuming my duties and working with the talented team of professionals at Malaspina.”

Since opening their doors in 1969, it is estimated that Malaspina has graduated over 30,000 individuals.

Forrester takes on his new role in Malaspina’s downtown alumni office April 14.
