Mariner Athletics

The 2007 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s National Volleyball Championships are coming to Malaspina for the first time in the schools history, March 8-10.

This major event should attract volleyball fans from across the island to see the top eight Canadian teams compete for the championship title.

The Red Deer Kings have won the title for an amazing seven years in a row and will surely be favourites to make it eight. However, Alberta is very competitive this year with teams like Mount Royal (Calgary) and MacEwan (Edmonton) battling the Kings for a right to go to Nationals.

Our Malaspina Mariners, currently number one in BC and ranked sixth in Canada, should give the local fans something to cheer for. The M’s are a well-balanced squad and will have a great opportunity to fight for the title on their home court.

We are only going to release 125 tournament passes prior to the event and expect to sell out well in advance. Due to limited seating we encourage fans to purchase passes early to avoid disappointment at the door. For more information, call our ticket office at 740-6413.

The Mal U Nation expected out in full force

Mariner athletics are supported by a great student following called the Mal U Nation. You can see and hear these fans dressed in blue at all Mariner home games.

With the excitement of such an event, Malaspina is expected to have a large number of the student body taking in the games. The crowd will make it difficult for all opposing teams as they can be quite intimidating to play in front of.

Mal U Nation members receive special ticket pricing, a designated seating area and free food at every Mariner game played during the 2007 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s National Volleyball Championships.

Becoming a member is easy, just pick up your 2006-2007 Mal U Nation shirt at the Malaspina bookstore or Gymnasium. Every home game Mal U Nation members attend gives students a chance to Win Your Tuition. The draw date is March 8 at the Malaspina game.
