MEDIATION CONTINUES BETWEEN VIU AND CUPE

NANAIMO, BC – Vancouver Island University (VIU) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1858 are continuing their efforts to finalize the collective bargaining process.


The parties met with mediator, Mark Brown, over the weekend and are making good progress towards achieving a renewed collective agreement. The parties will continue discussions this week.


During this period, there will be no job action, and the parties have agreed to continue making no further public comment.


CUPE Local 1858 represents nearly 300 employees including food services workers, clerical staff, facilities workers and library staff at VIU’s five campuses.
