When Malaspina Mariners are not studying, training, travelling or competing, they are getting involved with local elementary schools and special events.

MEN’S BASKETBALL GIVE & GO

The Malaspina Mariner Men’s Basketball team assisted with traffic control and the loading of the Salvation Army trucks during the annual Christmas GIVE & GO event hosted by the Nanaimo Daily News. The team is also running a basketball camp for John Barsby Secondary and arranging a gift exchange on December 20th.

MARINER'S SMASH IT AROUND NANAIMO!!
The badminton team is active in the Nanaimo elementary schools and surrounding areas, introducing the lifetime sport they love. Just recently they conducted clinics at Cedar and Gabriola schools. The Mariners hope that exposing badminton to elementary age school children might spark some interest in this great game. The program is called SMASH IT. For more details, contact Alf McGuire at 756-0555.

MARINER VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOPES TO INSPIRE
The men’s and women’s volleyball teams are working with local grade seven volleyball teams. In January, Mariner athletes will be running a few practices for the Rutherford and Cedar teams. The elementary schools will then be given tickets to come watch the Malaspina Mariners in action.
