July 27, 1999 - 5:00pm

Vic Cowley, Chair of the Malaspina University-College Board passed away, Sunday, July 11.

"Vic's passing is a real loss to all of us," said Malaspina President Rich Johnston. "Vic's life was dedicated to the service of others. For over 25 years he was friend, advocate and defender of physically and mentally challenged individuals. His greatest gift was his ability to draw out the best in people and to show others the value and talents of people from all walks of life.

"He made all of us more aware and more sensitive to the needs of challenged individuals and encouraged us to create a more accessible, friendly and welcoming environment for those who need a little extra help," he said.

Johnston said that the Malaspina Foundation has been set up a fund in Mr. Cowley's memory, and donations can be made towards a scholarship in his name for physically challenged students. For more information call (250) 741-2724.

Mr. Cowley was appointed to the Malaspina Board in 1993; he was elected Vice-Chair in October 1996, and became Chair two years ago.
