Malaspina University-College student, Michelle Kusz, was presented with the Annette De Roux Memorial Award at the Cowichan campus last week.
The award recognizes Kusz’s high academic standing. Cowichan campus faculty developed the award in memory of Annette De Roux, a dynamic and influential former student who passed away in 2002.
“This award is a way to both honour the memory of Annette and to recognize the achievement of an outstanding student,” said Jay Ruzesky, coordinator of university programs at the Cowichan campus.
“Michelle is a quiet, but strong presence and her determination and hard work is a model for others.”
Faculty at the Cowichan campus raise money for the award every year. They hope to build an endowment fund to leave a lasting legacy. The next fundraising event will be a poetry reading by current students at the Cowichan campus April 8 at 7 pm.
