Malaspina’s Parksville/Qualicum Centre joined in the Spirit of BC festivities Feb. 17. Held in the Parksville Community and Conference Centre, representatives from across the community took part in showcasing the wide range of activities available, “The Wonders of Oceanside - 150 Things to do in Oceanside in 2008”.

Malaspina’s booth, one of 60, provided information on courses offered in Elder College, Continuing Education, and Adult Basic Education. Elder College palaeontology instructor, Graham Beard, showcased a beautiful display of fossils found locally. He was joined by many of his Elder College colleagues in providing information to the public.

The Adult Basic Education team provided information on the wide range of courses offered at the Parksville/Qualicum Centre, including English, math, and science courses used by many Malaspina students as prerequisites for further study.

For the young and budding scientists, the microscopy display and human torso model proved to be favourites. Many thanks to Tony Bellavia, Director of ABE, Carol Ramey, ABE Chair, Cheryl Dill, administrative coordinator, CCS, and Graham Beard, Elder College instructor.

The Spirit of BC event was organized by the Oceanside Spirit of BC Committee, a group of local volunteers dedicated to helping the community realize the most benefits possible from the 2010 Olympics experience. Malaspina’s Parksville/Qualicum team was happy to share the spirit.
