Thirty-seven Malaspina International High School (MIHS) students celebrated their BC High School graduation with a ceremony at Malaspina University-College followed by a banquet and dance at the Coast Bastion Hotel.

Tom Lewis, MIHS principal, said, “This is the most important day in the school year for all of us, students and faculty. We’re very proud of our students’ accomplishments.”

Guest speaker Dennis Su, a former MIHS and Malaspina graduate currently taking Malaspina’s MBA program, offered best wishes and encouraged MIHS graduates to further their education. Also offering words of encouragement were Malaspina president, Rich Johnston and MIHS board chair Gerald Owen

“On this year’s graduate list are six Canadian students including MIHS’s first First Nations graduate. There’s growing interest in MIHS from local students who want to broaden their educational experience with an international component and take advantage of the exceptional learning environment our school has to offer,” said Lewis.

The six Canadian students from Ladysmith and Nanaimo graduated with students from Turkey, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Japan, and the People's Republic of China.

The independent high school, operated by Malaspina University-College, provides one of only two private high school graduation programs in Nanaimo.
