Malaspina cook training grad Iain Rennie wins Employee of the Year Award

At a recent "Night of the Stars" awards ceremony held at the Ocean Point Resort Hotel & Spa in Victoria, Iain Rennie, an Executive Sous Chef at The Empress Hotel in Victoria was named Employee of the Year for Vancouver Island's hospitality industry.


Rennie won the honour over a field comprised of Vancouver Island's best hospitality employees nominated by the Executive Food Services of B.C. and the Victoria and Campbell River branches of the Federation of Chefs de Cuisine.


Rennie attended Ballenas High School in Parksville before going to Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo where he graduated from the 12-month Culinary Arts (Professional Cook Training) certificate program in 1990. The 30-year old chef was a member of Team BC that won a gold medal in the World Culinary Competition in Switzerland December 1999.


The Victoria, Mid-Island and North Island Branches of the Vancouver Island Restaurant Association sponsored the Night of the Stars awards event.
