Malaspina University-College commercial baking student Dena Nicols accepts a $1000 scholarship from SERCA Foodservice Inc. district sales representative Graham Hawkins while Malaspina commercial baking instructor Rolf Hesser lends support. Nicols received the scholarship for her second prize award in the first annual Great Canadian Recipe Contest sponsored by SERCA recently. Student cooks and bakers from all across Canada submitted recipes from five regional divisions. Nicols won second prize in the Pacific division for her Inca dessert. All finalists will be featured in SERCA's New Horizon's magazine and a recipe book comprising recipe contest submissions will be published this year. SERCA's website at: www.serca.com will also highlight the winning entrants. Nicols is a graduate of Malaspina University-College's culinary arts program who returned to Malaspina to take the commercial baking program with baking instructor Rolf Hesser. Malaspina culinary arts student Pam Jones won a professional set of knives for her third place SERCA award.
