Malaspina University-College is joining 85 countries around the world to celebrate International Education Week November 13 to 16.
The public is invited to enjoy free concerts, performances, displays, cooking demonstrations and more at the Nanaimo campus throughout the week.
“It’s a Canada-wide celebration to showcase the significant contribution that international education makes in preparing Canadians for the global world,” explained Jennifer Jensen-Richards, international student coordinator at Malaspina.
Planned activities include an international cooking workshop led by students in Malaspina’s Tourism and Recreation program on Nov. 13. Displays highlighting international education will be featured in the upper cafeteria (Building 300) 10 am to 12 noon on Thursday, Nov. 15. That evening, the public is invited to a free “Music of World” concert at 7 pm in Building 355, Room 203.
Scholarships will be awarded to international students at a special presentation in the Malaspina Theatre (Building 310) on Friday, Nov. 16 at 1 pm, where community partners and sponsors will be officially recognized by Malaspina President Dr. Ralph Nilson. Performances by current students, staff and community members will follow from 1:45 to 3 pm, and then everyone is invited to a free “mingler” in Building 255, Room 170. Music and refreshments will be provided.
Malaspina has over 1,000 international students from 50 countries around the world.
