April 22, 2008 - 4:30am

Malaspina University-College and the Canadian Western Bank have announced a new President’s Award, a $2500 scholarship for Bachelor of Business Administration students.

“We are very excited about this new award,” said Malaspina President, Dr. Ralph Nilson. “We are proud to partner with the Canadian Western Bank and give assistance to students in our Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program.”

The new award is available to second or third year BBA students who plan to pursue a career in banking and who demonstrate leadership qualities and have a record of community involvement. Applicants must be outgoing and enjoy working with the public.

“This award was created to provide assistance to a deserving business student,” said Russell Burke, Assistant Vice President of Canadian Western Bank (CWB). “We understand the cost of education is high, so we want to recognize those students who excel not only academically but also as leaders in the community.”

The successful award applicant will receive a $2500 tuition credit and have the opportunity for paid work experience with the CWB.

“We will provide students with the opportunity for summer employment so they may apply their educational skills to a business environment,” said Burke. “We chose Malaspina as our partner because of the quality of education, the emphasis on small class sizes and the great relationship instructors have with their students.”

Short listed applicants will be interviewed by an external selection committee before final selection. This award will be offered every two years.
